Necro is a scholar in necromancy, but this knowledge came at a price. While he was performing his research into evil powers, they were slowly altering and weakening his body. This chapter covers the most noticeable of such alterations.
Necro is an adult 210 years old red dragon. For his age, he is considered to be small in size compared to other dragons in his age – Necro is barely 8.5 meters long when measured from tip of his nose to the end of his tail. This is an effect of Necro’s interest in dark arts. Such practice had affected more than his size – his overall look is rather necrotic.
But the dark arts are not the only reason for Necro’s weakened shape. Any dragon of his size needs to spend a lot of time hunting and searching for food, but Necro spends sleepless days in his lair, researching instead of hunting. As a result, he is malnourished to such an extent that you can count the ribs in his chest.
Entirety of Necro’s body is covered in scales. They [are tododies]
Red dragons have got their name for the red color of their scales, but most of Necro’s scales have lost their color and became orange.
Some of the scales on Necro’s have retained their original red color and stand out from the other scales. These scales are forming into “blobs” and “scattered patterns.
Similar effects also apply on Necro’s abdominal scales. They have lost their pure white color and have taken on a yellow slightly greenish tint.
Texture of all those scales is also different from a normal red dragon’s – most of them are rough and dry, while normal red dragons of this age should have smoother scales for at least another hundred of years or so.
Red dragon’s head has many unique facial features, making them highly recognizable among other types of dragons. Each of such features will be described in following chapters here.
Dragons have big cat-like eyes with vertical iris, that allow them to see better in the dark. Red dragon's ones have three diamond-shaped openings in their pupils. While Necro has yellowish scleras, they get closer to green color in the middle of an eye.
Tip of Necro’s snout spreads up and down. Upper part is forming a small horn that points backwards and is covered with skin, while the lower one assists Necro in holding things with his mouth.
Whenever Necro is angered produces grey smoke out of his nostrils. [ make better]
Whenever food meets Necro, it is greeted with two rows of his sharp teeth. Most of them are wide and curve a bit forward with an exception of four fangs. Two upper ones use the tip of his snout to ensure a tight grip on a tasty meal.
When it comes to eating, Necro, as a red dragon, gives preference to fried meat. But unlike others of his kind, he not just agrees to consume vegetation, but also frequently includes them in his meals on a daily basis. He is also very fond of alcohol, though it requires him to consume a large amount of it to get drunk. Also Necro’s breed of red dragons is unable to chew food on their own. To aid their digestion system they finish each meal with a handful of coins and gems that go into their gizzards.
Dragons are horny in many ways, especially red dragons. While in normal red dragon’s design horns would amplify their terrifying look, Necro’s horns are rather short and thick in comparison, giving him less of a threatful appearance.
Horns of a red dragon replace their brows and point backward, spreading out for around 20 degrees horizontally while staying on almost the same level vertically. Shape of these horns form a wave pattern. First wave ends at the back of the head and each next one is half of the length of the previous one. Necro has one and a half waves within his horns’ length.
Necro’s, as any other red dragon’s horns, consist out of multiple segments. In Necro’s case there are six segments of visible part of his horns. Each segment grows out of the previous one, pointing forward.
Most red dragons use their horns for grooming and Necro is no exception.
Red dragons have a unique arrangement of facial spikes, consisting of spike line, side frills, cheek spikes and beard spikes. All of them are arranged one after another in a U-shaped path around a dragon's cheek.
Experiments with necrotic magic have altered Necro’s spikes. Most of them are weak and thin if they have managed to develop at all.
Necro’s spike lines have not developed properly and remained under the skin. While for others of his kind, spike lines provide extra eye protection, Necro’s spike lines make his eyes look like he is always smiling.
Necro’s side frills are formed out of four prolonged thin spikes. These spikes are linked together with a thick loose membrane.
Side frills support Necro’s ears and can move in many different ways, but Necro prefers to keep them lowered under their membrane’s weight, giving him a tired look. Tho side frills can show many other different emotions – Necro might curiously raise them or move them to sides when shocked.
Only two of Necro’s cheeks spikes are seen. Rest are too small and undeveloped like ones in his spike lines. Same is true for his beard spikes – two smaller spikes surround a big one in the middle.
